The South African government has called on its citizens to unite behind a common goal of moving the country forward, in line with the country’s National Development Plan.
Thank you for voting, South Africa!
Our 5th free and fair election was another success as South Africans participated in their democratic right to vote in the 2014 elections.
The elections were hard-fought and contested with remarkable political maturity and tolerance, and the government applauded all political parties for the spirit of national unity which prevailed.
Speaking in Pretoria following the announcement of the final results of the country’s general election on Saturday evening, the President-elect, Jacob Zuma, pledged that the government will use its election mandate to implement policies and programmes in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), in order to further improve the quality of life of all South Africans, especially the poor.
Zuma dedicated the ANC’s victory to the memory of the late Nelson Mandela. He added that the ANC was humbled that South Africans had again chosen the party to govern the country.
“The ANC will be humble in its victory,” he said. “We will form a government that will serve all the people of our country, regardless of who they voted for. We must now unite and work together to move South Africa forward.”
The government has called on all South Africans to unite behind a common goal of advancing the country in line with the Vision 2030 plan as mapped out in the NDP.
“The future is now in our hands and we must all do our best to build a winning nation,” acting Government Communications Information System CEO, Phumla Williams said.
“We are inspired by the overwhelming number of young people who came out to vote across the country. This is a clear indication that the future of South Africa is in good hands,” Williams said.
