The Johannesburg Development Agency on behalf of the City of Johannesburg has appointed the contractor – Nkomaba Trading and Projects in December 2018 , to begin with the construction of the new modernize clinic in Doornkop, Soweto which will cost R33,9 million and 30% of the contract value will be awarded to SMME’s in Ward 50. Local labourers from the same ward will be appointed and trained. The construction of this modern clinic will take 10 months to be complete.
The construction work consist of the demolition of existing structures, building new foundations, diggings, doing brickwork, plastering, tiling, installing ceilings, painting and paving of the road and walkways
Stakeholder and community participation has been conducted ensuring that a much more sustainable sense of ownership, civic pride, citizenship, unlocking development potential is cultivated. Also solutions to meet local needs and benefits the pro poor communities in Soweto and in particular, Doornkop are co-produced.
City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Development Planning, Rueben Masango said , the overall aim of the project is to improve and expand patient access to medical services and improve; their health, life style, economic growth and provide jobs for the community in Doornkop, and surroundings neighbourhoods in Soweto.
