Jabulani precinct, a mere concept just a few years ago, is fast becoming a reality. The latest initiative, which will be undertaken by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), includes the creation of a transit orientated development that will further unlock the Jabulani node into a viable central business district.
The next set of developments entails the development of Bolani road into a major arterial route that will support the increased traffic flow into the new business district and the construction of a community sports and recreation centre, the improvement of public environment around the Nhlanzane Metro Rail Station. The anticipated completion time for these projects is end of 2018.
The main objective behind all these developments is to create a safe, attractive, livable environment that encourages owners to upgrade their buildings, improve social cohesion and encourage further investment and upgrading in the area said JDA CEO, Thanduxolo Mendrew.
The envisaged developments will supplement the various developments that have taken place so far. These include, Jabulani Views, these are the new residential apartments, Jabulani Mall, the acclaimed state of the art Soweto Theatre, a 300 bed hospital, all of which are conveniently located next to the main BRT route running through Soweto and connecting with Johannesburg’s CBD.
“In addition to the increased commercial and housing property values due to the developments that have taken place, the planned developments will attract further investments from private investors”, concluded Mendrew.
