Unique dining experiences, music and film happenings, sight-seeing opportunities – the Absa Joburg City Festival celebrates a re-energised inner city.

The Absa Joburg City Festival sees a feast of exciting events taking place across 11 inner-city locations from 2 to 5 October.

All the events can be accessed by public transport in the form of a Rea Vaya bus or a festival shuttle. Apart from Rea Vaya’s normal operations, its buses will be running on City Festival routes from 7pm through midnight on Friday and Saturday. Pre-paid integrated transport passes can be bought online at www.joburgcityfest.co.za/buy-tickets.

Festival-goers will be able to catch buses from Milpark to the Library Gardens, passing Constitution Hill and Park Station. Other options include taking a connecting bus from the Library Gardens to the Carlton Station, near the Absa Campus, and on to Maboneng or Ellis Park.

The return trip stops at Chancellor House, where festival-goers can take a shuttle to Newtown.

From unique dining experiences to a science fiction night at Sci Bono, and from film festivals to music happenings and sight-seeing opportunities, the Joburg City Festival has something for everyone.

Some of the country’s best-known performers will be taking part, including Johnny Clegg, Jack Parow, Loyiso Gola and Amanda Strydom.

The main programme covers 11 inner city hubs: Absa Campus, Braamfontein, Constitution Hill, the Fashion District, Ferreirastown, Fordsburg, Maboneng, Marshalltown, Milpark, Newtown and the Retail District.

Adding to the excitement, the Springboks will take on the All Blacks at Ellis Park on Saturday, and for those without tickets to the stadium there will be the ever-popular Boktown at Absa Campus and a Fan Mile stretching from the campus to Ellis Park via Maboneng.
