TODAY, 1 December, the Johannesburg Development Agency joins hands with people across the globe in commemorating World Aids Day.
World Aids Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
The SA National Aids Council said the focus on World Aids Day in South Africa this year would be on “zero stigma and zero discrimination”, as well as working towards “zero new HIV infections and zero Aids-related deaths”.
South Africa, which continues to have the highest prevalence of HIV/Aids infection in the world, will mark World Aids Day with a variety of activities including a reunion of activists. World Aids Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.
