Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance in Joburg, Councillor Geoffrey Makhubo, will present a R32 billion City budget at the Joburg Theatre tomorrow, 27 May.
The budget will rank as the biggest ever delivered by a South African municipality, cementing Joburg as a World Class African City and the economic hub of the continent.
It is expected to give substance to the theme developed by Mayor Parks Tau during his State of the City Address of Joburg as a City at Work. The budget will include infrastructure spend for projects detailed in the Integrated Development Plan and the Growth and Development Strategy.
MMC Makhubo speech will detail the City’s Capital Expenditure in the coming year, including the amount of money to be spent maintaining the City’s aging infrastructure.
Of particular interest to business and households will be the rate of increase in water, electricity, refuse and sanitation costs.
This increase will be partly offset by rebates for business and the elderly.
