Westbury Transformation Development Centre (WTDC) is 90% Complete!

The completion of the “state of the art” Westbury Transformation Development Centre in February 2019 which consists of facilities such as sports and recreation, early childhood development, old age, retail, bakery and sewing rooms are part of the upgrade will definitely benefit the community of Westbury and adjacent neighbourhoods.

The upgrade of the WTDC which costs R67million is implemented by the Johannesburg Development Agency on behalf of the City of Johannesburg. The upgrade created jobs in Westbury area as the Main Contractor Motheo hired and trained 42 local labourers and utilised 7 SMME”S in the area as part of the SMME’ agreement. The graduation of learners is scheduled for 29 November 2018 with some learners absorbed into contractor’s staff.

The breath-taking multipurpose centre upgrade is an inspiration that will provide opportunities for social interaction and cater for different sporting codes, such as soccer, hockey, cricket, volley ball, netball, basketball and aerobics etc. These sporting codes will also contribute in empowering and motivating youth and sports fanatics to participate in sport and improve their life style and the entire community will stay healthy.
The centre seeks to also include the elderly, by having a day care which will have daily activities to keep them young at heart, as well as provide hearty meals. The childhood centre will also be refurbished to increase capacity. A number of retail opportunities will be identified, including a bakery and sewing room.
City of Johannesburg, MMC for Development Planning Rueben Masango said the upgrade of the WTDC will restore self-esteem to the youth, sports fanatics and will bring people together. In particular, youth will reach their fitness and their sports career goals. Sport and recreation is the hub of community life, especially in Joburg regions, where communities are expected to play and work in the area where they live such as Westbury and surrounding neighbourhoods
