{"id":7981,"date":"2014-09-19T11:48:46","date_gmt":"2014-09-19T11:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jda.dev.griam.co.za\/?p=7981"},"modified":"2018-08-24T11:52:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-24T11:52:18","slug":"automotive-park-to-create-jobs-entrepreneurs-in-alex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/automotive-park-to-create-jobs-entrepreneurs-in-alex\/","title":{"rendered":"Automotive Park to create jobs, entrepreneurs in Alex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Greater Alexandra-Marlboro Automotive Industrial Park is set to boost economic development in Johannesburg&#8217;s oldest township by creating quality jobs and helping to grow a new generation of local entrepreneurs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Johannesburg&#8217;s oldest settlement, Alexandra Township, is set to receive a major boost with the creation of the Greater Alexandra-Marlboro Automotive Industrial Park.<\/p>\n<p>The project was conceptualised by the City of Johannesburg&#8217;s Department of Economic Development, and is being spearheaded by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA).<\/p>\n<p>The park will comprise motor dealers, fitment centres, spares shops, panel beaters, mechanical and auto electrical workshops, upholsterers, licence plate manufacturers, a petrol station and a fuel depot.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is due to commence in January 2015 and be complete by December 2015, with the JDA expecting to create 200 jobs during construction and post-construction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Alex Township carries a lot of history, there are many freedom fighters including Nelson Mandela who lived in Alex, yet it is one of the poorest townships in the country,&#8221; said the JDA&#8217;s Nthangeni Mulovhedzi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Automotive Park will increase the local economic development of the area by creating job opportunities and generating economic activity through local mechanical entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We identified 16 automotive backyard mechanics [that] are currently under a mentorship programme,&#8221; Mulovhedzi said. &#8220;Some of these mechanics are operating from their homes and some from a temporary place in the Marlboro industrial area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The identified mechanics are going to be the beneficiaries of the Automotive Park.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, the City&#8217;s Department of Economic Development, in conjunction with the National Treasury, developed a citywide Township Economic Development Programme.<\/p>\n<p>The Automotive Park project is fully in line with this programme, seeking as it does to create quality, sustainable jobs, develop viable small businesses, encourage private sector investment in a strategic sector of the economy, and act as a catalyst for the industrial regeneration of the township.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Greater Alexandra-Marlboro Automotive Industrial Park is set to boost [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":31,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[76],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7981","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-media-releases-2014"],"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7981","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/31"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7981"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7981\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7981"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7981"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7981"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
