{"id":7364,"date":"2013-12-09T07:06:30","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T07:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jda.dev.griam.co.za\/?p=7364"},"modified":"2018-08-24T07:07:21","modified_gmt":"2018-08-24T07:07:21","slug":"travel-arrangements-for-nelson-mandela-national-memorial-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jda.org.za\/archived\/travel-arrangements-for-nelson-mandela-national-memorial-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel Arrangements for Nelson Mandela National Memorial Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday 10 December 2013 from 11:00. Due to the fact that not all mourners may be able to be accommodated at FNB Stadium, \u2018overflow stadiums\u2019 have been arranged at Ellis Park, Orlando and Dobsonville Stadiums where the National Memorial Service will be broadcast live.<\/p>\n<p>Government has arranged for free public transport and park and rides to accommodate mourners and ensure that they are able to get to the Stadiums on time. No cars will be allowed near FNB Stadium and there will be road closures in place from Monday 9th December.<\/p>\n<p>Mourners are urged to choose which Stadium they want to attend the National Memorial Service and take heed of the details below in respect of travelling to the different Stadiums and plan their trips accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Entrance to FNB Stadium is on a \u201cfirst come, first serve basis\u201d. And once FNB Stadium is full, mourners will be directed to other Stadiums and so mourners are also encouraged to listen to their local radio stations and follow social media.<\/p>\n<p>Mourners are urged to arrive early at the Stadiums. The Stadiums will open at 6:00 am. Parking venues and bus services will be operating from 5:00 am.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the National Memorial Service, there will be no normal Rea Vaya bus services. Metrobus will run a limited service, similar to the service that they operate on Sundays. PUTCO will endeavour to run a normal service. We apologise for the inconvenience.<\/p>\n<p>1. DETAILS FOR FNB STADIUM<br \/>\nMourners to FNB Stadium can choose to travel in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>Travel by Metrorail from all major stations in Gauteng. Trains will leave on an hourly basis<br \/>\nTravel by Gautrain to Park Station and transfer to Metrorail to FNB Stadium<br \/>\nWalk from the surrounding areas to the stadium<br \/>\nUse the special Rea Vaya BRT service which will operate as follows:<br \/>\nT1: From Ellis Park East Rea Vaya Station via Library Gardens Westbound Rea Vaya Station and Westgate Rea Vaya Station to Soccer City Rea Vaya Station<br \/>\nT3: From UJ Kingsway Rea Vaya Station via Soweto Highway to Nasrec North Rea Vaya Station<br \/>\nDrive to a Park and Ride site and travel by Rea Vaya BRT or bus to the stadium.<br \/>\nThe following are the Park and Ride sites but mourners are urged to watch the press for updates:<br \/>\nStandard Bank, entrance No 1 Simmond Street, Joburg CBD<br \/>\nOpening parking next to Rea Vaya Westgate Station, entrance in Anderson Street, Joburg CBD<br \/>\nUniversity of Johannesburg, Kingsway Campus<br \/>\nGold Reef City (Casino), entrance in Northern Parkway, Ormonde<br \/>\nApartheid Museum, entrance in Northern Parkway, Ormonde<br \/>\n2. SUPPLEMENTARY NATIONAL MEMORIAL SITES: ELLIS PARK STADIUM<br \/>\nMourners can get to Ellis Park in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>Travel by Metrorail from Park Station to Ellis Park<br \/>\nWalk from the nearby areas of Hillbrow, Yeoville, Bertrams, Troyeville, etc.<br \/>\nWalk from the University of Johannesburg, Doornfontein Campus, entrance in Beit Street, Doornfontein<br \/>\nUse the special Rea Vaya BRT service which will operate as follows:<br \/>\nT1: From Westgate Rea Vaya Station via Library Gardens East Bound Rea Vaya Station to Ellis Park East Rea Vaya Station<br \/>\nFrom Braamfontein (Joburg Theatre and Conhil Rea Vaya Stations) to Ellis Park North Rea Vaya Station<br \/>\nDrive to a Park and Ride site and travel by Rea Vaya BRT or bus to the stadium.<br \/>\nThe following are the Park and Ride sites but mourners are urged to watch the press for updates:<\/p>\n<p>Constitutional Hill, entrance in Joubert Street, Braamfontein<br \/>\nMetro Centre, entrance in Civil Boulevard, Braamfontein<br \/>\nThuso House, entrance in Stiemens Street, Braamfontein<br \/>\nWits University, West Campus<br \/>\nBez Valley Park, entrance in Marcia Street, Observatory<br \/>\nABSA Towers, entrance in Main Street, Joburg CBD.<br \/>\n3. SUPPLEMENTARY NATIONAL MEMORIAL SERVICE: ORLANDO STADIUM<br \/>\nMourners can get to Orlando Stadium in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>Travel by Metrorail from Vereeniging and Naledi Stations<br \/>\nWalk from the nearby areas of Mlamlankunzi, Orlando West, Orlando East, etc.<br \/>\nDrive to the Park and Ride at either Coke a Cola Dome, Northgate and catch a bus to Orlando Stadium<br \/>\nCatch a marked PUTCO bus from the following areas<br \/>\nProtea Glean<br \/>\nMerafe<br \/>\nMolapo<br \/>\nBara\/Diepkloof<br \/>\nChiawelo<br \/>\nMapetla<br \/>\nDube<br \/>\nMeadowlands.<br \/>\n4. SUPPLEMENTARY NATIONAL MEMORIAL SERVICE: DOBSONVILLE STADIUM<br \/>\nMourners can get to Dobsonville Stadium in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>Walk from the nearby areas of Tshepisong, Braamfisher, Mfulo, etc.<br \/>\nCatch a marked PUTCO bus from the following areas:<br \/>\nEmdeni<br \/>\nNaledi<br \/>\nDobsonville<br \/>\nOrange Farm<br \/>\nSilvertown<br \/>\nBraamfisher<br \/>\n5. DETAILS OF FNB STADIUM ROAD CLOSURES<br \/>\nThe following road closures will be in place around FNB Stadium from midnight on Monday 9th December.
