Construction on the Turffontein storm water upgrade is currently underway. The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) completed phase 1A and are busy with phase 1B of the project. The design of the storm water system is in line with the Joburg Roads Agency’s (JRA) modern storm water system.
This means residents of Turffontein will soon have a storm water system that will reduce flooding, retain water, recharge ground water and prevent water overflow that can be harmful to grass and plants. The storm water drainage system project is now more than 80% complete and it is anticipated the project will be complete by end October 2018.
The aim of the storm water project is to rebuild the natural water cycle and store water in the retention basins for a certain time, to recharge ground water and to use the collected water for irrigation and for household supply in Turffontein and surrounding areas.
The construction of the Turffontein storm water and roads will undoubtedly improve water supply and water retention in the area and improve the quality of life of the residents in Turffontein said, JDA CEO Christo Botes.
